All 64 I Ching Hexagrams

Each hexagram combines two three-line trigrams. The upper trigram (the top) forms lines four through six; the lower trigram (the bottom) forms lines one through three. Their images offer a compact vocabulary for relationships such as movement and stillness, openness and restraint, or clarity and uncertainty. They are not separate predictions pasted together. Read the pair as one structure whose upper and lower parts describe how the situation is arranged.

Line positions are counted from the bottom upward. The bottom line is position one, the first point at which a situation takes form; the top line is position six, where that pattern reaches its limit or turns toward something else. A solid line is yang and a broken line is yin. Keeping this direction clear matters whenever a reading names a changing line, because reversing the order would change a different part of the figure.

The figure, its changing positions, and any resulting hexagram are fixed cast facts. They come from the completed cast and remain the same when a saved reading is opened again. Interpretation is a different layer: it asks what those facts can illuminate about the question, context, timing, and possible next step. An interpretation should answer to the figure; it cannot rewrite the cast to make a preferred answer appear.
